CIS Completes Strategic Energy Assessment Phase for Major Pharmaceutical Group

CIS has successfully completed the latest phase of a strategic energy assessment programme for a major pharmaceutical group, supporting its long-term objectives to reduce operating costs, improve energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions across its UK operations.

The programme involved detailed technical audits and site surveys across multiple facilities, including laboratories, offices, warehousing and specialist production environments. Working closely with site teams, CIS assessed key energy-consuming equipment and processes, verified asset data and collected operational information to identify opportunities for energy and carbon reduction.

A key element of the project was the development of a consistent assessment methodology that enables energy performance to be evaluated and compared across diverse site types. The surveys incorporated detailed analysis of major energy users, including HVAC systems, refrigeration and freezer equipment, process plant and other critical infrastructure, alongside temporary metering to validate energy consumption patterns.

The findings from the assessment phase are being used to establish energy performance benchmarks and create a strategic baseline from which future improvements can be measured. Site-specific recommendations have been developed, covering operational improvements, control strategies, equipment upgrades, renewable energy opportunities and other targeted energy-saving measures.

With the assessment phase now complete, CIS is supporting the next stage of the programme, working with individual sites to prioritise, develop and deliver energy reduction projects that will contribute to the organisation’s wider sustainability and decarbonisation objectives.

The project demonstrates CIS’s ability to combine detailed technical analysis with strategic planning, helping complex organisations identify practical opportunities to improve performance while supporting long-term environmental goals.
